The thing with amateur local theater is it is almost always bad BUT keeping it alive is the most important thing

powerbottombrucespringsteen

The joys of artistic expression cannot be limited to talented people everybody needs it to survive

I feel like some people have fundamentally misunderstood the point of funding the arts. It's not about receiving quality art products, it's about giving people an opportunity to engage in the act of creation. Because, you know, we're human beings and art is fundamental to us.

It's a) extremely classist an b) detrimental to art and society as a whole to try and confine it to people who are already good at it. Let people do things they're bad at. Let people engage with art in a way they find fun and fulfilling, even if you don't like what they make. Give people a safe space to be artists. And yeah, let folks put on crummy theatre. You don't have to buy a ticket, but you should absolutely respect their right to sell them.

“oh they’re not taking away chronological dashboard, well everything’s okay then” they also said in the post they’re making reblogs collapsed (like comments on twitter) so you won’t see the full conversation in a post. they also won’t get rid of tumblr live despite it being an annoying and cancerous data-miner that isn’t legal in much of the world. they won’t even let you opt out of tumblr live for more than seven days. they implemented a terrible photo viewer that mimics tiktok and makes it so you can’t zoom in on images. they took away the ability to view prev tags. they’re making it so you have to sign in with your email to view almost any thing on tumblr. they’ve already made it so you have to sign in to send asks, even on anon. they’re slowly phasing out custom blog themes.

the things that make tumblr at all usable and favored by us– the older web blog features, the anonymity– that is still being taken away. it HAS been being taken away for some time now. i am urging you people to reveiwbomb the tumblr app. force them to acknowledge that users do not like these changes.

So @photomatt (aka the guy who runs the company that owns Tumblr) is doing a livestream right now, taking questions from users.

A user with epilepsy asked if something could be done to make sure that ads aren’t vibrant or strobing, because that’s a seizure risk.

Matt made some vague noises about looking into it, kind of mumbling and then full voice immediately said “you should maybe buy the no ads upgrade, or get someone to gift it to you.”

He suggested the user pay for basic accessibility, to make sure the site doesn’t give them seizures.

I shouldn’t need to explain why this is very very bad, especially in conjunction with that last post from @staff.

Tumblr is apparently running a $30,000,000 deficit, and reversing that is the clear priority of the ownership right now. The interests of users aren’t going to be important until or unless they find a way to monetize us.

i think one of the most important things you learn about making connections with others is that a significant portion of the time people just do not know theyre doing what theyre doing

lycanthology

sometimes someone is acting selfish because they just didnt think you had any interest in what theyre hogging. sometimes you dont get invited to the movies because your friend could have sworn that you said no. sometimes you think someone is mad at you because theyre bad at hiding how little sleep they got. we are all like little worlds that briefly crash into one another from time to time and we just arent physically capable of seeing the whole picture at once in those moments. and learning that really changed everything!
